STEP SIX STUDIOS

>> ABOUT <<

Hello. My name is Santino and this is my tiny little studio where I make a vast array of different pieces of work. Some may call it "content" but I like to call it "stuff".

You might recognize me by some of my online aliases like "Sanlas2012" or "santino_sanlas". Let me assure you that the name "Sanlas" is a completely fabricated username based off a childhood experience and means nothing to anyone but me. They'll be more info in the FAQ section down below.

Anyways, I make video games, music, and various bad memes and mashups. Sometimes I stream and sometimes I collaborate with others.

Okay, so a long time ago when I was in elementary school, I was obsessed with Legos and Youtube. I found out about Lego stopmotion animations. My dad took notice and showed me the family camera that had a very fancy feature that allowed you to pause a recording and unpause at any time. This gave a (what I like to call) "real-time stopmotion" affect. It was neat and I was in love with it. My dad showed me how to use it and used my Lego Star Wars set as an example. My dad's laptop had a copy of Windows Movie Maker so when we finished our little "film" he imported everything onto there and gave out production title of "SanLas Productions" a portmanteau of his name (Douglas and my name (Santino).

This moment was more pivitol to me than I give credit. It made me the man I am today. It forever set a course for me to be a creative, wherever that might take me. The name technically still works even without my dad's involvement because my middle name is Douglas so it still holds up as being a portmanteau.

Cool.

I personally use FL Studio with lots and lots of VSTs, soundfonts, and plugins. I mostly use free plugins or paid plugins that go on really good discount (although I rarely pay for plugins).

I use two, actually: Godot and Gamemaker Studio 2.

I've been leaning towards Godot a lot more recently due to its use of nodes for basically everything I need in a video game and its open-source nature. I will say the only thing that (currently) sucks about Godot is that it doesn't have any native console support which sucks. The fact that I have to utilize another company to help with the porting process kind of sucks but I understand that it's a necessary endeavor.

I've been using Gamemaker since high school and while it's certainly come a long way I do think that for what it is there are so many features and options that it could be doing instead of doing whatever it is that they're currently doing. Almost every game engine has some kind of Live-Editing functionality and it baffles me that Gamemaker does not have anything remotely close to that besides from a pluggin. It's a great pluggin, mind you but why must I download it instead of just using it natively in engine? I also don't like how there are Beta features that have been available for years and yet they're still nowhere near completion. The new code editor is what I'm mostly confused by because it should just work and somehow it doesn't?

Anyways, I'll have a completely different section talking about my grievances with Gamemaker. For now, I'll just leave it at "it's a good beginner engine and it also helped Toby Fox make Undertale and Deltarune" so do with that what you will.
